Fixatives for UndeRglaze and Onglaze Ceramic Decoration

Ferro supplies fixatives for use in decal application to underglaze and onglaze ceramic decoration.  Our fixatives increase the adhesion of ceramic decals on rough or porous substrates. Typical examples include decoration of frosted glass and underglaze decoration.

Ceramic Auxiliaries and Fixatives for Underglaze and OnGlaze Decal Adhesion
Our fixatives are specially formulated to initiate dissolution on the underside of ceramic decals after being applied, increasing the bonding performance of the decal to the substrate. This bond helps to decrease issues that can occur during the decoration process, such as pinholes, even on problematic surfaces.
Ferro Fixatives Improve Ceramic Decal Adhesion to Rough Surfaces
Ferro fixatives are used on surfaces to help the ceramic decal paper coat form a bond with comparatively rough surfaces that occur in unglazed bone china, vitro‐porcelain or earthenware bisque.

Fixative 87 4029 has proven its worth for many years.  A thixotropic fixative used in the decoration of ceramic articles on unfired, raw glaze, it is particularly well‐suited to decorating earthenware as its thixotropy prevents it from sinking in too quickly. The decal can be moved around easily while applying the decoration.

Fixative 87 4039 is suited for onglaze decoration and glass decoration that utilize very thickly printed decors (embossed decors) that are being applied, or if decals are to be processed on embossed objects. Using Fixative 87 4039 helps to eliminate substantial firing defects, such as pinholes, which often occur during this process.

Due to its own high level of viscosity as a flowing fixative, 87 4039 is also recommended for decorating low porosity earthenware.
