Roof Tile Glazes and Engobes
Ferro offers a wide range of colorful roof tile glazes and engobes in custom formulations for nearly limitless options in roof tile designs. Available in lead-containing and lead-free formulations, our glaze/engobe formulations also provide an array of surface effects including metallic aesthetics, smoothness, matt and gloss.
Ferro’s in-house vertical integration of roof tile stains, frits, and additives technology and production capabilities allows us to offer custom roof tile glaze and engobe formulations that span the entire color space. We also provide various transparency and opaqueness options with many surface effects such as glimmer, metallic looks and precious metal surface aesthetics.
Our roof tile glazes provide a smooth and pore-free glass layer of ceramic roof tile protection that significantly reduces dirt retention, algae and moss growth on the roof tile surface. Our lead-free glazes offer roof tile manufacturers the ability to provide a palette of colors that are environmentally responsible.
Ferro’s roof tile engobes provide a beautiful high-quality smooth tile surface with many effect options that include semi-matt and matt finishes. In many cases, they can reduce dirt retention on the roof tile surface.
Roof tile glazes/engobes formulations are available with or without additives and can be provided in pre-milled or dispersible powder form according to customers’ specific requirements.
We are also able to supply engobes/glazes in slip form where customers only have to adjust (dilute) the viscosity to their production needs.
DELIVERING OPTIMAL PERFORMANCE
We deliver optimal glaze and engobe performance by determining the suitability of the glaze/engobe combination’s compatibility with the clay roof tile body during drying and firing based specifically on its thermal expansion coefficient (CTE) and softening point.
The temperature range can also be adjusted to suit particular firing conditions.
