ULTRAFINE/ULTRAPURE DENTAL GLASS POWDERS
Ferro offers a range of ultrapure specialty glasses and cements for dental applications, including dental fillings and artificial teeth (dentures).
Ferro's ultrapure glass fillers for composites have been developed to fulfill the highest requirements in fineness and homogeneity for use in specially formulated restorative dental materials and compomers. Our inert dental glass powders are of the highest purity and can be ground into ultra-fine particle sizes for optimum resin loading, reducing shrinkage.
Designed to deliver improved surface hardness, a highly aesthetic appearance, and good wear resistance, Ferro dental glass powders offer high mechanical and mechanical strength and allow fillings to be polished like a tooth. Additional properties of our glasses include adequate roentgen opacity for detection of the filling from other dental tissue in standard X-ray photographs.
Available in refraction indices of the most common dental resins, (typically from 1.50 – 6), we also offer formulations with custom refractive indices and intermediate milling grades.
Dental glasses are available with or without fluoride.
FERRO DENTAL GLASS PROPERTIES
- All dental glasses are ultrapure--they are fused homogeneously and show only very little variation in their respective refraction indices.
- All dental glasses are ultrafine, with a grain size up to 0.4 µm to ensure that the finished filling can be excellently polished, with high filler load and high transparency of the composite.
- Fine milling is done to the desired medium particle size at D50.
- Typical grain sizes for coarser glasses are available at 5.0 µm, 3.0 µm and 1.5 µm.
- Finer glasses grain sizes are available at 1.0 µm, 0.7 µm and 0.4 µm.

VALUE ADDED SERVICES
Custom Color Mixing
We offer a standard mixing palette of dental colors which gives our customers the flexibility of tailoring mixings and color matches onsite.
Silanization
Our ultrafine inert special pure glasses are available with or without silane treatment. We offer customized silanization of special pure glasses specially optimized based on our customers’ requirements in batch sizes from 5 - 100 kg.
Customized Dental Glasses
We work closely with our customers to co-innovate and develop customized high-performing new special pure glasses (with customized refraction index or chemical composition). Our capabilities also include the formulation and creation of dental glasses with tailored particle size distribution in batch sizes from 100 – 120 kg.
